Color Fun

As part of our Color Unit is science we dyed Easter Egg.  I would normally make up different colors of dye for the kids to use, but this time I only made the primary colors, and the they had to guess what combinations they need to make up the secondary colors that they wanted. We had a few not so pretty colors come out out, but for the most part thongs worked out quite well.

Building

Science experiment, or snack time? Maybe a bit of both. In order to test if triangles are a stronger more sturdy structure than squares we built a tower out of squares using marshmallows and tooth picks.  The structure we constructed wasn't very sturdy, and twisted easily. We didn't get it to stand up.  Then we took spaghetti and reimbursed the square shaped tower, and made it into triangle shapes. The tower was strengthened and we were able to stand it up and hold a toy car on top.
Our conclusion was that triangles are indeed a stronger structure than squares.

Home Made Goodness

One way for the kids to learn about healthy eating is to have them read the labels on products. We are trying to stay as far away as possible from additives and preservatives that our bodies don't need. One way to have a treat and not get all the extra additives is to make it yourself.
Making homemade treats in Life Skills has turned out to be one of the funnest parts of our school year. Some of the items we have made are healthy, but not all of them. I know I have enjoyed them immensely.

Fall Fun

One of the first art projects we did this year were fall landscapes with hand and fingure prints.  I let the kids pick thier own colors and away they went. After we were all done with the painting, B noticed that each picture was a different time of day, and followed the sun as it set.

Horse Riding Lessons

With the start of a new school year the kids wanted to forcus a portion of their learning on riding lessons. I was really impressed with the results that came from our experience with W last year, that I thought it was a great idea. The kids spent all summer selling raffle tickets on a quilt thier aunt made for them. They were able to raise quite a bit of money for thier lessons that way. Their motivation in selling the ticket showed me how much they really wanted the riding lessons.

Take Me out to the Ball Game

Spring was very welcomed this year after a very windy winter season. Our physical education has benefited from the warm weather as we are able to take our activities out side. Baseball has been family time this spring as we are all helping B to practice and get ready for his baseball games this year. He is really excited to be on a baseball team this year.  Being on this baseball team has helped B with a number of different subjects. It has helped him learn about levers, got him active for P.E., and help him fulfill a cub requirement to get a new badge.

Just Dance

This year Mother Earth through us a surprise snow storm during our dance recital. M, B and W all performed this year. B and W both did clogging numbers and M did her ballet agian this year. They all did wonderfully, and I was so proud of them all.
