Mr G's Final Kub Kar Rally

Mr.G did really well with 3rd place in his final Kub Kan Rally considering his car jump the track and went flying off into the crowd. His car was absolutely perfect in his eyes. He patterned it after a Demolition Derby car. He wanted to make it look authentic so we painted it and roughed it up with sand paper to give it that beat up look.

Winter Cub Camp 2017

During our winter break this year we had a Winter Cub Camp. At the camp we went on a 3 Km hike, built Hobo Stoves, played games, and made Pine Cone Bird Feeders. We also made Fire Starters, built a fire, roasted hotdogs, and made cake in an orange peel
At first I was sceptical that the fire starters would work very well, but the surprised us. The fire starters are actually pretty amazing. They are super simple to make, and work like a charm. We even cut the toilet paper tubes in half and they still worked.

The First & Last

This year marked the first Kub Kar Rally for Mr. G, and the last one for Mr. W.  Mr. G was ecstatic. He has been waiting for his turn since his oldest Brother Mr. B, built his first one 6 years ago.
They  were able to use Uncle Mikes wood working tools in his shop, and later use the spray paint. It doesn't get much better than that.

The final design for Mr. G's racer was a Ford Mustang GT with a blower sticking out the top of the hood.

Mr. W ended up with  Chevrolet Silverado.

There were some pretty amazing designs this Year. I was really impressed.
To top it all off, MR. W pulled off a 2nd Place win, and Mr. G was 3rd Place out of 18 cars. I think the smiles on their faces say it all.

Jr. Science Day - Structures

Every once in a while we have a special science day where a REAL SCIENTIST comes from the local university and teaches the kids about science. This time they were learning about STRUCTURES. There were 4 different stations to help teach the kids different aspect to think about when designing a bridge. Then at the end of the class they were to design and make a bridge out of paper that could hold a 10b stack of newspaper.

I was a parent volunteer, so I was only able to take pics of the station I was helping out with. In this station the kids were learning about FORCES.
Out of the whole group of kids MR.W was the first to figure out how to make a ruler stand up with a string and 2 pieces of tape.(Proud Mommy Moment). Mr. G was in the same group and quickly followed Mr.W lead. There was only one other kid that was able to figure it out on their own.

I missed the  picture when it was holding the stack of newspaper in the background on the chair, but it did hold it up.

Mr. W's Seeonee Award Project

You might be thinking Seeonee Award what is a Seeonee award. Well, it is a new Cub Scout award. It is a top section award like the Chief Scout Award. In order for the boy to earn it they have to earn 10 Outdoor Adventure Skill levels, have 15 hours of service, and complete a meaningful project to help the community.  Mr. W wanted to make blankets to donate to the Woman's Shelter.  We decided to invite the other Howlers in his cub group to help. It was a lot of work, but it was also a lot of fun. I am so proud of Mr.W and his hard work in cub over the last 3 years.

Home Ec.

Little Miss. M wanted to be Red Riding Hood for Halloween. We went shopping for the perfect cape, but we found out that it didn't exist in out price range anyways. That's where the thrift and dollar store come in. Miss M. was able to find a decent costume at the local Thrift Village, but wasn't too impressed with the cape. It need some doctoring, so we headed for the Dollar Tree.  After picking out some ribbon and lace we headed home to start work on our project.

After much deliberation we were able to make the decision of how we were exactly going to  attach the trimmings. The results, as you can see, are not to shabby. In fact I was quite pleased with them, and so was she.

Kub Kar Time 2016

This year Mr W. wanted to make a TRUCK with a functioning tailgate. I informed him that, that might not be the fastest design, but if that's what he wanted the by all means go ahead.  Turns out I was wrong because he got 1st place this year.
Mr. W and Miss M made a car of their own this year too.
